Safety & Scam Prevention
Romance scams cost Americans over $1.3 billion in 2024, and adults 60+ lost more per victim than any other age group. Aura is designed to make senior members hard to scam.
What Aura does
- Every profile is verified with a live selfie and government ID (never shown to other members).
- Live message scanning flags common scam patterns — requests for money, links to crypto sites, urgent stories about a sick relative overseas.
- One-tap reporting — every profile and every message can be reported. Reports go to a live safety team.
- Block on report — the reported member is blocked immediately, before the report is even reviewed.
What you can do
- Never send money to someone you have not met in person, no matter their story.
- Video-chat before meeting in person. Aura has video built in for this reason.
- Meet in a public place the first several times.
- Trust your gut. If something feels wrong, use the report button — no explanation needed.
Reporting a scam
If you believe you have been targeted, report the profile in the app and file a complaint with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and the FBI's IC3 at ic3.gov.
